A Xingyao ewer, Tang Dynasty

A Xingyao ewer, Tang Dynasty (618 - 907)

Dimensions:
  23.00cm high (  9.06 inches high)

The rare ewer, very finely potted, supported on a splayed foot rising to well-rounded shoulders, surmounted by a fine waisted neck flaring to a broad trumpet mouth, the shoulders set with a short tapering spout on one side, and a tied triple-strap handle imitating a straw basket handle on the other side, applied overall with a pure white glaze, stopping at the base, revealing the fine-grained white body.

Ewers of such exquisite material and fine potting were made both by the Xing and the Ding kilns of Hebei province.
